Mavericks Ridge headed to UNC-Wilmington

Marvin Ridge’s outstanding middle-infielder Stephen Ridge will be headed to UNC-Wilmington to play baseball in the sprint of 2019. Stephen announced his intentions via his twitter account, “Extremely blessed to announce that I have committed to UNC Wilmington to further my academic and baseball career! Go Seahawks!” Ridge was named 2nd Team All-UCHSBaseball and All-SCC as a junior after hitting .342 with 25 hits, 13 RBI and scored 15 runs. Congrats Stephen!

Austin Roseberry (W)

Weddington's Roseberry picks Francis Marion

Weddington's Austin Roseberry will continue his education and baseball career at Francis Marion College. Roseberry was the ace of the Warriors staff. Roseberry finished the 2017 season 8-1 with a 0.83 ERA and striking out 73 batters. Austin also was recorded two saves for the Warriors. Those stats put led to Austin finishing in the top 5 in Union Co. in wins(2nd),ERA (2nd), strikeouts (4th) and saves (3rd). Roseberry was named 1st Team All-UCHSBaesball.com and ALL-SCC as a senior. Roseberry caught the eye of several scouts after pitching a 1-hit shutout at the Perfect Game USA tournament in Atlanta. App. State and LeGrange showed interest but Francis Marion stepped up with the offer. Congrats Austin!!!

Josh Swartz (SV)

Sun Valley's Swartz headed to WCU!

Sun Valley's rising senior Josh Swartz will be playing baseball at the next level. Swartz announced his future via his twitter account, "Blessed and excited to announce that I have decided to continue continue my baseball career and education at Western Carolina University!!". Josh was named 2nd Team All-UCHSBaseball.com after his junior year. Swartz hit .372 with 32 hits, scored 21 runs and drove in 21 RBI along with 10 doubles while being named All-SCC for the Spartans. CONGRATS JOSH!

Travis Little (CU)

Cuthbertson's Little steps down

Cuthbertson’s Travis Little has stepped down after 8 years of the leading the Cavaliers. Little is the only varsity baseball coach the Cavs have ever had, leading the program from the school’s inception in 2010. Little finishes his career with a 169-62 record overall and averaged 21 wins a season in one of the toughest baseball conferences in North Carolina. The Cavaliers advanced to the 4th round of the state playoffs 3 times (’17, ’15, ’12) and missed the playoffs just once (’14). The Cavs won the 2017 SCC Tournament. Congrats Coach you will be missed!

Porter Ridge's Gill bound for Catawba Valley CC

Porter Ridge rising senior Chris Gill will continue his baseball career at Catawba Valley CC in the fall of 2018. This was announced via Impact Baseball’s twitter account, “Congratulations @CGill23 (2018 Porter Ridge HS Infielder) on his commitment to Catawba Valley CC!” Gill, a shortstop was named 2nd Team All-UCHSBaseball as a junior after hitting .323 with 20 hits, 3 HR’s and drove in 22 RBI for the Pirates. Congrats Chris!

Zack Budzik (SV)

Sun Valley's Budzik likes UNC-Greensboro

Sun Valley's rising senior Zack Budzik has made his decision on his future and will continue his education and baseball career at UNC-Greensboro. Budzick announced it via his twitter account, " Blessed to say that I have committed to UNCG to further my education and baseball career. Thank you to everyhone who has helped me throught hsi process and I can't wait to see what the future holds." Budzik, headed into his senior year hit .347 with 26 hits and drove in 8 RBI and scored 26 runs on the way to be named All-UCHSBaseball.com honorable mention team in 2017. Budzick was 2nd Team All-UCHSBaseball.com as a sophomore. Congrats Zack!

Jess Harkey (PW)

Parkwood junior Harkey headed to Charlotte

Parkwood junior Jesse Harkey has made his decision to continue his education and baseball career at UNC-Charlotte once his career at Parkwood is over (2019). Harkey announced it via his twitter account, "Beyond blessed to announce my verbal commitment to play baseball at UNCC! #NinerNation". Harkey a soon to be junior hit .328 with 19 hits and drove in 16 RBI for the Rebels in 2017. Harkey was named UCHSBaseball.com's 1st Team and was UCHSBaseball.com's New Comer of the Year as a freshman as well as being named All-Rocky RIver in 2017. Congrats Jesse!

Harley, a junior catcher hit .266 on the season with 21 hits and drove in 12 RBI for the Rebels. Harley was honorable mention All-UCHSBaseball.com and All-Rocky River after the 2017 season. Tim "Dillon" Hardy (CA)

Former Cougar Hardy is drafted & signed by Astros!

Former CATA Cougar Tim "Dillon" Hardy, a redshirt sophomore at Tusculum College, was selected in the 18th round of the Major-League Baseball draft by the Houston Astros on Wednesday, making him the first drafted athlete in the history of Central Academy of Technology and Arts. Hardy signed with the Astros and will report to camp soon. Hardy was named 2nd team All-UCHSBaseball as a senior while leading Union Co. in K’s with 92 in 2014. Hardy finished 2014 with a 4-6 record and a 1.86 ERA. Dillon was named All-Rocky River as a junior and senior for the Cougars.

Hardy, a 6-7, 250-pound sophomore left-hander boasted a 9-3 record with a 3.91 earned run average last season with the Tusculum Pioneers. His 94 strikeouts were third in the league, 33rd in NCAA Division II, and the fourth-most in a TC single season. His nine victories (2nd in SAC/29th in NCAA II) are tied for the eighth most in a season by a Pioneer and earned All-South Atlantic Conference second team accolades. During his two seasons at Tusculum, he finished with a 10-4 record with a 3.82 ERA. In his 32 mound appearances, he made 13 starts, including three complete games, one shutout and two combined shutouts. He pitched in 96.2 innings where he recorded 111 strikeouts against just 27 walks and limited the opposition to a .265 batting average. CONGRATS Dillion!!

Marvin Ridge's Kuchmaner and Cornatzer named All-State!!

Marvin Ridge's 1-2 pitching punch of Jake Kuchmaner and Jason Cornatzer have been named to the 2017 3A All-State team. Kuchmaner won the Pitching Triple Crown leading Union Co. in Wins (9), Strikouts (94) and ERA (.58). Cornatzer finished the 2017 season 8-3 with 82 K's and a 2.44 ERA. Both were named to the All-UCHSBaseball.com's 1st team. Kuchmaner was the 2017 UCHSBaseball.com's Cy Young winner and is headed to ECU with Cornatzer is headed to App State. Congrats boys!!!

Four Cardinals make All-Conference.

Four Union Acadmey Cardinals were named to the All-Uwharrie team. Braden Eilerman was named Conference Player of the Year after finishing his senior year with a .506 avg with 40 hits, 23 RBI, 37 runs scored 8 doubles, 6 triples and 3 homeruns. Tyler Munday hits .465 on the season with 33 hits, 28 runs scored 32 RBI, 7 doubles, 2 triples and led Union Co. with 6 HR's. On the bump Munday was 3-0 with 3.21 ERA and 48 K's. Senior Josh Bitgood hit .421 with 24 hits, 18 runs, 21 RBI, 3 doubles and 2 triples and 1 homerun. Jayden Sylvestre, a freshman was named as well after hitting .230 with 14 hits, 27 runs and 20 RBI. The Cardinals finished the 2017 season 20-7 and advanced to the 3rd round of the state 1A playoffs. The best season in Union Academy history! Congrats boys!!!

Two Warriors sign on to play college baseball

Weddington's Drake Smith and Elijah Bowers signed their "John Hancock" on college baseball letters of intent and will continue their education and baseball careers in 2018. Smith, a senior infielder (3B/1B)hit .289 with 24 hits and knocked in 9 RBI along with 17 scored runs and 5 doubles. Smith is headed to Winthorp in the fall.

Bowers signed with the USC Gamcocks as a catcher who hit .214 with 15 hits and scored 16 runs and drove in 8 runs for the Warriors team. The Warriors went 19-9 on the season, 10-5 in the SCC and advanced to the 3rd round of the state playoffs. Good luck and Congrats boys!!!

Four Pirates headed off to play college baseball

Porter Ridge baseball players Tristan Shea, Matt Bowman, Ryan Dula and Alex Pressley all put their pens to paper and signed college letters of intent to continue their educations and baseball careers.

Shea was named 1st Team All-UCSHBaseball and was All-SW4A as a junior and senior is headed to UNC in the fall. Bowman and Pressley have signed with South Eastern Community College. Bowman was 2-0 with a 2.39 ERA as a senior and 4-1 as a junior and was named 2nd Team All-UCHSBaseball.com.

Pressley hit .306 as a senior for the Pirates with 19 hits and drove in 11 RBI. Ryan Dula is staying local and has signed with Wingate. As a senior Ryan was 4-4 as a senior with 22 strikeouts and a 5.25 ERA and at the plate hit .286 with 11 RBI on the season. He was named 2nd Team All-UCSHBaseball.com after hitting .342 with 26 this and 15 RBI. and Dula will be at Wingate. Congrats boys!!!

2 Pirates make All-SW4A team

Porter Ridge’s senior Tristen Shea and sophomore Brennan Malone were named to the All-SW4A conference team. Shea, who will play at UNC-Chapel Hill hit .419 on the season with 26 hits and knocked in 13 RBI for the Pirates. Shea was named 1st Team All-UCHSBaseball as a junior and is headed to UNC this fall. Malone, a sophomore was named SW4A Conference Pitcher of the Year after going 4-2 with a 1.39 ERA and striking out 93 hitters. Congrats boys!!!

Greyson Haller (PM)

Piedmont's Haller switchs his pick to Queens!

Piedmont's Greyson Haller committed to Montreat College but made a change and now is headed to Queen's Univeristy and will continue his baseball career in 2018. Haller was named honorable mention All-UCHSBaseball as a junior. Haller hit .253 with 21 hits, 3 doubles, 1 homerun and drove in 10 RBI for Cocah Flow in 2016. Haller was 2nd team All-UCHSBaseball as a sophomore after hitting .355 with 27 hits,scored 14 runs and drove in 12 RBI. Greyson currently is tied for the lead in Union Co. in homeruns with 5. Congrats Greyson!!!

Travis Poole (W)

Weddington's Poole gets 400th career win!

Weddington's Travis Poole has now won his 400th career game after a 12-3 win over Charlotte Stampede. Poole became the first coach in Union County histor y to win back-to-back State titles in baseball after leading Weddington to the 2012 & 2013 state titles. Congratulations Coach Poole!!

Union Academy’s Tyler Munday has committed to continue his education and baseball career under Coach Beck at Montreat College. Tyler announced his decision via his Twitter account, “Blessed to announce my commitment to play baseball & further my education as a cavalier! Many thanks to everyone who helped along the way! @MontreatCavBase“. Munday was named 2nd team All-UCHSBaseball the past two seasons – as a sophomore (.465 with 20 hits, 6 doubles, 7 runs and drove in 13 RBI) and as a junior (.350 with 21 hits, 15 runs, 18 RBIs, 8 doubles and 1 HR). Heading into his season year, Tyler is expected to be a key leader for the Cardinals this spring. Congratulations Tyler!!

Piedmont's Moser headed to Pfeiffer!

Piedmont’s Matt Moser will be continuing his baseball career at Pfeiffer University. Moser announced via his twitter account, “Blessed to say that I have verbally committed to continue my education and baseball career at Pfeiffer University!” Moser went 5-2 with a 2.33 ERA and struck out 36 batters for the Piedmont Panthers while being named All-UCHSBaseball.com’s 2nd team in 2016. As a sophomore Moser was 4-1 2.22 ERA and tallied up 26 K’s. Moser is the third Panther to announce that he will play college baseball. He joins Piedmont teammates Grayson Haller (Queens) and Christian Ezzell (Brevard) in announcing this past week. Congrats Matt!!!

Piedmont sends another to play college baseball

Piedmon't senior catcher Christian Ezzell has verbally committed to continue his basbeall career at Bevard College. Ezzell announced it via his twitter account, "Extremely blessed to announced that I've verbally committed to continue my academic and baseball career at Brevard College!!". Christian played in just 7 games as a junior and hit .133 for the Panthers. Ezzell is expected to contribute more as a senior in 2017 in the dugout and handling the Panther pitching staff. Congrats Christian!!!

Cuthbertson's Cameron Roberts is the next Union Co. baseball player to committ to App State. Roberts announced his intentions via his twitter account, "Very excited to announce I have decided to further my baseball career at Appalachian State University!". Roberts joins Marvin Ridge's Jason Cornatzer, Alex Leshock, and Jason Curtis. Roberts was 9-1 on the hill with a .51 ERA and struck out 104 batters. At the plate Cameron hit .286 on the season wtih 22 hits, 10 runs and drove in 12 RBI. Roberts was named 1st team All-UCHSBaseball.com and All-SCC as a junior. Congrats Cameron!!!

Dula, a senior for the Pirates announced his choise via his twitter account, "I'm blessed to say I have committed to play baseball and further my academic education at Wingate University! Go bulldogs". Dula was named All-UCHSBaseball.com's 2nd team as a junior after hitting .342 wtih 26 hits, 14 runs and drove in 15 RBI. Dula pitched as well for the Pirates and was 2-3 with a 3.50 ERA and strukck out 30 on the season. Congrats Ryan!!!

Mavs pitcher Cornatzer will play at App State

Jason Cornatzer, the 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher has committed to play baseball on scholarship at Appalachian State University. Cornatzer, who has won two 3A state championships with the Mavericks, was named 1st-team All-UCHSBaseball.com, All-SCC and All-State as a junior in 2016 after going 11-1 with an 0.62 ERA and had 85 K's. In Cornatzer’s two years with the program, the Mavericks have a combined 59-11 record. Congrats Jason!!!

Alex Leshock (MR)

Marivn Ridge's Alex Leshock has committed to play college baseball at App. State in the spring of 2018. Leshock announced his intentions via his twitter account, "Extremely excited to say that I've committed to play Baseball at Appalachian State University!". Leshock was the 2016 UCHSBaseball.com MVP and while finishing 2nd in Union Co. with a .450 average. Alex led Union Co. with 54 hits and drove in 21 RBI. Alex smacked 3 HRs this season and scored 33 runs along with 20 stolen bases. Alex was named to the 2016 ALL-UCHSBaseball.com’s 1st team and was named ALL-SCC and the SCC Player of the Year while helping lead the Mavericks to the SCC title, the SCC Tournament Title and his 2nd 3A STATE TITLE!!! Congrats Alex!!!

Mavs Demarco Reaves will play for Coastal Carolina

Marvin Ridge High senior Demarco Reaves has announced plans to play college baseball at defending national champion Coastal Carolina. Reaves was a relief pitcher for the Mavs and compiled a 3-1 record with a county-best five saves while boasting a 1.84 ERA. Reaves also played left field and hit .233 with nine RBIs in 63 plate appearances last season. Reaves was named 2nd-Team All-UCHSBaseball.com in 2016. Congrats Demarco!!!

    Union Co. represents well in All-State teams. Marvin Ridge had three selected to the NC Coaches All-State team. Jake Kuchmaner, Alex Leshock and Jason Cornatzer were named to the 3A team. Parkwood's Nick Beaver was the lone Union Co. rep for 2A. All four were named ALl-UCHSBaseball.com's 1st team with Leshock as UCHSBaseball.com's MVP and Kuchmaner was UCHSBaseball.com's Cy Young.

    Two more Cuthbertson Cavaliers will continue their baseball careers at the next level. Callen Nucio and Sam Mennitt have announced via their Twitter accounts that they will play college baseball. Nucio, a junior will play at VMI in the spring of 2018 and Mennitt will be at UNC-Charlotte in the spring of 2018. Nuccio is a 3-time 1st Team ALL-UCHSBaseball and Mennitt was named honorable mention ALL-UCHSBaseball this past season. As juniors Nuccio hit .345 with 23 runs scored and 29 hits. Mennitt hit .292 wtih 19 hits and scored 18 runs while driving in 10 RBI for the Cavs. Congrats boys!!! .

    Alex Bostic (CLEM)

    Weddington's Bostic drafted by SF Giants!

    Former Weddington Warrior and Clemson junior left-hander Alex Bostic has been drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 10th round and with the 305th overall pick. Bostic, 21, has a 7.07 ERA in three seasons at Clemson, spanning 49 appearances. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Bostic “has a fastball that ranges from 89 to 92 miles per hour and an average slider.” Bostic was 4-2 with a 5.13 ERA during the 2016 season, starting the year as Clemson’s closer but only picking up two saves during the season. Bostic was the 2013 UCHSBaseball.com's Co-MVP with Piedmont's Colby Barnette. Bostic hit .398 and led Union Co. with 12 HRs and knocked in 41 RBI and led the Warriors to a 3A State Title.

    Parkwook Rebel, Erik Ryan will continue his baseball career at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. Ryan was 9-4 on the season with 60 K's and a 1.42 ERA for the Rebels. Ryan also threw a No-Hitter in a win over West Stanly. Ryan was named 1st Team ALL-UCHSBaseball along with All-Rocky River and Mr. Ryan helped lead the Rebels reach the 2A State Semi-Finals.     MAVS WIN TITLE!!

    For the 2nd straight year the Marvin Ridge Mavericks are 3A State Champions. In a best of 3 game series the Mavs bounced back after falling in game 1 to Topsail with back to back wins in games 2 & 3. Jason Cornatzer and Zach Zdimal won games 2 & 3 respectivly for Marvin Ridge. Senior Chandler Castleberry was named MVP of the series after hitting 2 dinggers in game 2 and a triple in game 3 CONGRATS BOYS---BACK TO BACK!!!

    Cavs trio set to play college baseball!

    The Cuthbertson Cavaliers trio of Jalen Jenkins, Houston Zaretsky and Josh Karklin will continue their baseball careers at the next leve. Jenkins and Zaretsky will play at Burnswick CC and Karklin is headed to Wingate. Zaretsky hit .294 with 18 RBI in 2016. Jenkins hit a team leading .446 with 22 RBI & scored 24 runs. Karklin was 3-1 on the season with 44 K's and a 1.58 ERA. Jenkins and Karklin were named 1st Team ALL-UCHSBaesball and Zaretsky was named 2nd Team ALL-UCHSBaseball. The trio were named ALL-SCC as seniors. Congrats boys!!!

    Jacob Cornatzer (MR)

    Marvin Ridge's Jacob Cornatzer will continue his baseball career at USC Lancaster in the spring of 2017. The 6'2 senior pitcher is currenlty 1-0 on the hill with 3 strike-outs and a 0.00 ERA. Jacob helped lead the Mavs to the 2015 State Title. Congrats Jacob!!!

    Piedmont's Austin Purser will continue his baseball career at Mars Hill in the spring of 2017. As a junior Purser hit .271 with 23 hits, driving in 20 RBI and scored 16 runs. Purser was named 1st Team ALL-UCHSBaeball and Honorable Mention All-UCHSBaseball as a junior. Congrats Austin!!!

    Porter Ridge's Will Ruby will continue his baseball career after committing to Erskin College. As a junior Ruby hit .328 with 19 hits, driving in 25 RBI and scored 17 runs. Ruby was named 1st team ALL-UCHSBaseball as a senior and 2nd team All-UCHSBaseball.com as a junior. Will added 10 doubles and 3 triples for the 2015 Pirates. Will helped lead the Pirates to a 16-6 record and into the 3rd round of the state playoffs. Congrats Will!!!

    Piedmont’s Sam Little will continue his baseball career after committing to University of South Carolina at Beaufort . Little, a senior infielder for the Panthers hit .274 with 23 hits and knocked in 17 RBI in 2015. Sam added 12 runs scored and three doubles. Sam helped lead the Piedmont Panthers to a 19-10 record.     Marvin Ridge senior Chandler Castleberry has committed to Anderson University to continue his baseball career. Castleberry annouced his intent via his twitter account, "Blessed to announce that I have verbally committed to further my academics and continue my baseball career at Anderson University." As a junior Castlberry hit .314 with 32 hits, scored 22 runs, 4 doubles, 3 triples driving in 19 RBI and stole 10 bases. Castleberry helped lead Marvin Ridge to a 3A State Title!     Marvin Ridge senior Mark Glover has committed to Lafayette to continue his baseball career. Glover annouced his intent via his twitter account. Mark was honorable mention All-UCHSBaseball.com as a junior after hitting .283 with 30 hits, scored 23 runs, 3 doubles, driving in 22 RBI and stole 12 bases. Glover helped lead Marvin Ridge to a 3A State Title. Congrats Mark!!!

    Marvin Ridge's rising junior Jake Kuchmaner has committed to ECU to continue his baseball career. Kuchmaner annouced it via his twitter account. Jake was 1st-Team All-UCHSBaseball.com as a sophomore after posting a 8-1 record(3rd best in Union Co.)with 92 K's (2nd best in Union Co.)and 1.96 ERA. Kuchmaner helped lead Marvin Ridge to a 3A State Title. Congrats Jake!!!

    Panthers' Drew Little will be headed to Wingate!

    Piemdont's Drew Little will continue his baseball career as a Wingate Bulldog! Little (@DrewLittle13) announced his decision via his twitter account. "Super excited and blessed to continue playing baseball at Wingate University!!" Little tweeted it out Tuesday afternoon. Little was named All-UCHSBaseball.com's 1st team while batting .424 with 39 hits, 4 homeruns and driving in 18 RBI. Little added 35 runs scored with 12 doubles and 2 triples. Congrats Drew!!!

    Forest Hills has found its new baseball HC

    Forest Hills High has named Stewart Redding as its new varsity baseball coach. A former assistant at Scotland County, Redding replaces Cory Smith, who stepped down after four seasons at the helm. Forest Hills went 7-13 overall and 4-6 in the Rocky River Conference in 2015. Redding has spent most of his life around baseball. He played for Scotland County, graduating in 1998 before earning a scholarship to play at St. Andrews University. After graduating from St. Andrews, Redding started coaching at Scotland Co. in 2007 and also served as an assistant in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. Redding will be taking over a Yellow Jackets program that has just one winning season in the last six years (2012) and that is the last time the Yellow Jackets made the state playoffs.

    Marvin Ridge junior Kevin Dobos has committed to Kent State to continue his baseball career. Dobos hit .333 on the season with 31 hits, driving in 24 runs and smacking 6 doubles while helping Marvin Ridge win the 3A State Title. Dobos announced his commitment to the Golden Flashes via Twitter (@RealKDobo) with the following, "I am officially committing to play baseball at Kent State University! " Dobos was named to UCHSBasbeall.com's 2nd Team as a junior. Congrats Kevin!!!

    Weddington junior Josh Hollifield has committed to Virginia Military Institure to continue his baseball carreer once it is completed at Weddington. Hollifield annoucned it via Twitter (@JHollifield) with the following, "Excited to say I have just committed to play baseball at Virginia Military Institute! " Hollifield was named to UCHSBasbeall.com's 2nd Team as a sophomore and junior. Hollifield he .304 with 21 hits and drove in 16 RBI for the Warriors in 2015. Congrats Josh!!!

    Max Wotell (MR)

    Wotell signs with with Mets

    "It's official, I'm a New York Met". That is what Max Wotell tweeted out recently. Wotell, a left-handed pitcher, was drafted in the third round (88th overall), and received a $775,000 signing bonus from the New York Mets, according to mlb.com. Wotell (6-3, 180) will report to the Mets’ Gulf Coast League affiliate in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The Gulf Coast League is primarily for rookies out of high school. Wotell led Marvin Ridge to a State Championship while going 14-0 on the mound with an 0.52 ERA and struck out 148 batters as a senior. Wotell earned UCHSBaseball.com's MVP and CY Young award honors. Max was a namd to UCHSBaseball.com's 1st Team three consecitive years. Max also earned Gatorade State Player of the Year honors. The Mavericks finished 29-5 and Wotell was voted MVP of the state championship series.

    Forest Hills looking for a new baseball HC

    Cory Smith has stepped down as baseball coach at Forest Hills High after four seasons at the helm. The Yellow Jackets were 7-13 overall and 4-6 in the Rocky River in 2015. It was their third straight losing season. The Jackets’ best year under Smith was 2015, when they were 14-11 and made the playoffs after finishing third behind Cuthbertson and Piedmont. Smith’s career record at FH was 35-51.

    Marvin Ridge Maverick Jason Curtis will continue his playing career at App State. Jason was UCHSBaseball.com's New Comer of the Year in 2013. Jason was named to UCHSBaseball.com's 2nd team as a sophomore, junior & senior. As a senior Jason hit .379 with 25 hits and scored 22 runs. Jason added 13 RBI, 4 doubles, and a HR that put the Mavericks in the State Championship game!!

    Former Porter Ridge Pirate Josh Roeder drafted in 21st round by the Yankees!

    Current Nebraska Husker and former Porter Ridge Pirate pitcher Josh Roeder was selected by the New York Yankees in the 21st round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Roeder was 1-1 on the season with 15 saves and a 3.15 ERA and struck out 28 Roeder is Nebraska's all-time leader in saves with 33. At Cuthbertson Preson was named UCHSBaseball.com's 2nd Team as a senior at Porter Ridge. Congrats Josh!!

    Former Cavalier Preston Morrison drafted in 8th round by the Cubs!

    Current TCU Horned Frog and former Cuthbertson Cavalier pitcher Preston Morrison was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 9th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Morrison is preparing for the College World Series Super Regionals on June 14th where they will face LSU. Morrison was 11-3 on the season with a 2.55 ERA and struck out 86.     Marvin Ridge High pitcher Max Wotell was selected by the New York Mets in the 3 round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Wotell was named NC Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year. Wotell, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior, has led Marvin Ridge to a 29-5 record and a 3A State Championship. Wotell finished the season by winning the pitching "Triple Crown" with a 14-0 recod , a 0.52 earned run average, 148 strikeouts. Wotell committed and signed to play baseball at Arizona but that may have changed. Congrats Max!!

    Former Parkwood Rebel Craig Brooks drafted by Chicago Cubs in 7th round of the MLB Draft.

    Former Parkwood Rebel and Catawba Indians was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 7th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Brooks was 9-1, striking out 158 and had a 1.45 ERA as a senior and hit .300 with 62 hits, driving in 43 runs his senior year. Craig was named Winner of Baseball's Tomko and Willingam Awards as a senior. At Parkwood Brooks was named ALL-UCHSBaseball.com's 1st team in 2010 and 2011. Congrats Craig!!

    Mavs Wotell is N.C. Gatorade baseball player of the year.

    Marvin Ridge High pitcher Max Wotell is the N.C. Gatorade baseball player of the year. Wotell, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior, has led Marvin Ridge to a 25-5 record. The Mavericks lead Crest 1-0 in a best-of-3 N.C. 3A Western Regional series.

    After his game 1 win over Crest Wotell is now 13-0 as a pitcher with an 0.57 earned run average, 136 strikeouts and 24 walks. Wotell is not too bad at the plate either, he’s hitting .417 this season and has 21 RBIs. Wotell was named 2014 UCHSBaseball.com's 1st Team. Wotell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball on scholarship at Arizona this fall, but is projected as an early-round selection in June’s Major League Baseball draft. Congrats Max!!

    Cody Smith (CU)

    Lander College gets Cavs' Smith

    Cuthbertson's Cody Smith will be continuing his baseball career at Division II Lander University. Smith has been hampered with a hamstring injurya nd as missed seven games for the 19-7 Cavs. Smith and also missed the entire 2014 season. Cody is batting .375 in 21 games this season with six doubles, 15 RBI and 17 r uns score for Coach Little this season. Congrats Cody!!

    Zack Farmer (PW)

    Parkwood's Farmer picks Erskin College

    Parkwood's Zack Farmer will be continuing his baseball career at Erskine College. Farmers has helped lead the Rebels to a 15-5 record thru April. Zack is hitting .373 with 19 hits, 23 runs and 12 RBI. On the mound Zack is 3-2 with a 0.48 ERA and 26 K's for Coach Richar. Congrats Zack!!

    David Nash (PM)

    Wingate gets Piedmont's Nash

    Piedmonts'David Nash will be throwing heat for Wingate in 2016. The Piedmont Senior signed with the Bulldogs this past November. Nash was UCHSBaseball.com's Cy Young Award winner in 2014 after going 9-4 and striking out 77 batters along with a 0.82 ERA. Congrats David!!

    Scout McFalls (PW)

    Parkwood's McFalls commits to Winthrop!

    McFalls verbally commited to D1 Winthrop on a baseball scholarship, and he did it with two years of high school eligibility still in front of him. McFalls' become the first athlete in the Parkwood's 63-year history to commit to a Division I school for baseball. Congratulations Scout!!

    Richar takes over at Parkwood

    The Parkwood Rebels have a new man running their baseball program. The Rebels have named Rocky Richar, who spent six seasons as the head coach at Sun Valley (2007-12) the new head caoch. Richar, A Parkwood alum now in his 18th season as a Union County high school coach, was an assistant at his alma mater in football and baseball before coaching at Sun Valley. Richar is replacing Andrew Starnes, who served for four years and turned the Rebels’ baseball program into a winner. After finishing 5-18 in 2012, they bumped their win total by nine and went 14-10 last season. Richar has a good building block in Junior Scout McFalls who recently signed with Winthrope. Congrats Coach!!!

    Todd Elwood (PM)

    Piedmont's Elwood follows brother to UNCC

    Piemdont's Todd Elwood has committed to the Charlotte 49ers. Todd hit .296 for the Panthers in 2014. Todd had 21 hits and knocked in 16 RBI as he helped lead the Piedmont Panthers to the State Championship series. Charlotte landed another solid student-athlete who will inevitably achieve great things in the classroom and on the field in the future. Congrats Todd!!!

    Max Wotell may well be the highest-recruited baseball player in Union County history. A senior left-handed pitcher at Marvin Ridge High, Wotell signed a full athletic scholarship to further his playing career with the University of Arizona. Wotell verbally committed to the Wildcats as a junior a year ago and said he has never second-guessed his decision. A 6-foot-3, 180-pounder, Wotell is a three-time all-Southern Carolina Conference selection for the Mavericks. As a junior in 2013, Wotell went 5-1 with 90 strikeouts and a 2.83 earned run average on his way to earning first-team all-UCHSBaseball.com honors. Congrats Max!!

    Bailey Connell (CU)

    Cavs' Connell chooses Wingate

    Cuthbertson's Bailey Connell will continue his baseball career at Wingate. As a junior Bailey hit .361 on the season including 26 hits, 15 RBI and scord 16 runs. Connell was named 1st Team All-UCHSBaseball.com as a junior and 2nd Team as a Sophomore. Congrats Bailey!!
